Liability Legal Coordinator, Risk Management

In Risk Management, the Liability Legal Coordinator is responsible for a variety of areas, including monitoring and responding to discovery in General Liability and Fleet lawsuits filed against Publix. Further, the Legal Coordinator will assist in measuring and managing legal services provided by our outside counsel, ensuring Publix receives high quality legal services while always seeking to reduce legal costs when possible. Additional projects and development will be available to the coordinator on an ad hoc basis.

The coordinator may also initiate property damage subrogation claims and attend small claims court hearings on behalf of Publix.

General

Liability is comprised of approximately 80 associates working in the Customer Claims Unit (CCU) Non-Litigated Claims and the Represented Claims Unit (RCU) Litigated Claims.

The Liability Legal

Coordinator works closely with and reports to the Liability Attorneys.

Responsibilities include

  • Coordinate and manage responses to discovery requests in General Liability and Fleet lawsuits, ensuring information is accurate, complete, and provided within required deadlines.
  • Serve as a key liaison between internal Publix departments and outside defense counsel to gather, review, and organize information needed to support the defense of liability claims.
  • Review discovery materials and related documentation to help ensure appropriate handling of sensitive or confidential information.
  • Assist with responding to court-ordered requests for information and document production, including matters requiring expedited turnaround.
  • Support the preparation and coordination of Publix associates for depositions, hearings, mediations, or other legal proceedings, as needed.
  • Assist with managing property damage subrogation matters, including coordinating documentation and participating in small claims or magistrate court processes when appropriate.
  • Analyze claim information and documentation to help identify potential risks, trends, or issues, and communicate findings to the Liability Attorney, claims partners, or Risk Management.
  • Coordinate with internal partners and Litigation Support to facilitate document collection, legal holds, and information preservation efforts.
  • Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives related to claims, litigation support, or legal operations.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of Risk Management and Liability operations.
  • Hybrid work environment: many of Publix’s corporate offices offer work from home up to one day a week
