Sales Development Representative (SDR) Program

Program Description:
As a Sales Development Representative at VIAVI, you will play a critical role in helping VIAVI grow its business by qualifying inbound leads and uncovering new sales opportunities through proactive outbound prospecting. This role is designed as a learning and development experience, preparing you for future positions on our Field or Channel Sales organization.

As a contributor to the VIAVI’s High-Speed Ethernet (HSE) and Network Performance and Threat Solutions (NPTS) business, you will gain exposure to our products, customers, channel partners, markets, sales processes, and why our customers rely on VIAVI to keep their businesses running.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Qualify inbound leads and identify customer needs to determine sales opportunities
  • Conduct outbound prospecting to uncover new business and generate pipeline for the sales organization
  • Collaborate with Field Sales, Sales Engineers, and Channel Partners to position VIAVI solutions effectively
  • Learn how to articulate the value of VIAVI’s innovative software and hardware solutions
  • Support sales initiatives focused on manufacturing, designing, deploying, and optimizing communication networks
  • Maintain accurate activity and opportunity data within CRM systems

Your First 12-18 months at VIAVI:

The ideal/targeted location for the 12-18 month training program is in the great Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Below are some of targeted experiences and skills you will develop in this role:

  • VIAVI Sales Methodology
  • VIAVI HSE/NPTS markets and products
  • Networking 101
  • Understanding the process of lead flow and qualification of leads to appropriate sales team or distribution partner
  • Processing and creating leads in an efficient and timely manner
  • Supporting Account Managers on key account growth strategies and outbound lead generation
  • Driving attendance at in-person and online events that lead to qualified opportunities
  • Understanding how VIAVI sells through channel partner organizations to end users
  • Collaborating with the VIAVI marketing organization to devise and develop marketing programs and promotions that align with sales goals
  • Developing named account contacts and intelligence that will bring incremental revenue for VIAVI today and in the future
  • Developing partner contacts and intelligence that will bring additional revenue; serve as liaison between VIAVI and key personnel in assigned partner accounts
  • Establishing and developing productive, professional relationships with key contacts in assigned partner/customer accounts
  • Proactively assessing, clarifying, and validating partner/customer needs on an ongoing basis

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

  • BA/BS Degree
  • Previous sales/customer service experience
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build lasting relationships, both internally and externally, which foster long term business growth
  • Customer first mentality: tenacious in solving partner and end customer problems and exceeding their expectations.
  • Clear thinker and problem solver in complex situations; able to work under strict deadlines and balance varying priorities that exist at any one time 
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Results-oriented, self-starter with abilities to work independently and remotely as well as with a team
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, assume ownership of responsibilities, and proactively drive tasks and outcomes with minimal supervision
