The Role: Web Development Technical Expert & Teaching Assistant

As a Teaching Assistant at Thinkful, you'll play a vital role in supporting our students as they navigate our web development curriculum. You'll host online video sessions, foster a safe and inclusive learning environment, and provide guidance on assignments and projects. This is a part-time, flexible opportunity that can be adapted to your schedule, with a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Host online video sessions for groups of students, providing live support and guidance on web development topics and assignments
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages students to ask questions and engage in discussions
  • Arrive punctually and complete required reports before the end of each shift, ensuring seamless continuity for students
  • Stay up-to-date with curricular, team, and company updates through Slack, email, and other async communications
  • Assist in maintaining records of student progress, escalating concerns to instructors when necessary
  • Participate in live student study pods via video call, helping to unblock their progress on labs and coursework within allocated time
  • Substitute as a lecturer, teaching live sessions within our established curriculum, if desired

Requirements and Qualifications

To excel as a Web Development Technical Expert & Teaching Assistant at Thinkful, you'll need:

Essential Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of relevant professional work and/or teaching experience in web development
  • Proficiency with front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery
  • Industry-level expertise in Node.JS and React.JS, with full MERN stack proficiency a plus
  • Genuine student advocacy and empathy for beginners, with a passion for creating an inclusive learning environment
  • Ability to quickly learn and become familiar with our program curriculum, including core concepts, topics, and learning objectives
  • Strong attention to detail, with a focus on providing accurate and high-quality support to students
  • Growth mindset, with a willingness to learn new concepts, adapt to changes, and go through training as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with online teaching or tutoring platforms
  • Familiarity with Thinkful's curriculum or similar online learning programs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with instructors and fellow teaching assistants
